GRACE

1 Corinthians 15:10 KJV

But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Grace is not always the easiest quality to welcome into our lives, particularly when we live in such a fast moving society. Multi-tasking is admired, ‘to-do’ lists are excessive, deadlines are a plenty and we skip into the fast lane as often as we can. The more 'efficient' we are, the better workers and the better we 'optimise' our time.

We need to step out of the fast lane and into the slow lane regularly, allowing our parasympathetic nervous system to take over so our body can ‘rest & digest’. Just BE.

In the practice of yoga, how can we find the balance between strength and flexibility, space and stability, between push and pull; and yin & yang. Even in the most challenging Flow Yoga class there is room for grace and stillness, it’s what keeps us fluid on the mat. We look for softness not only in our movements, but in our breath and in our ability to focus mentally. Softness not just in our physical body, but mind, attitude, spirit.

Just step back and breathe. Through grace, coming back to who you truly are. You are being guided to flow like water. Nothing to do, no one to become, nothing to prove. No pressure to rush or force your way ahead. Having patience and move with subtlety and grace.

If we can take that step back being the observer who observes the observed, then we also see that everything is Isvara. That my efforts, abilities are but Prasadam, an offering to God and it is through the Universe/ God that I have that ability to do what I can.

Try it in your yoga practice this week. On and then off the mat.

Namaste
