Transformation

When we first come to the mat, little did we expect the transformation and the spiritual journey.

Everyone who practises yoga has been touched in some way. Be it, the release of physical restrictions which have caused discomfort and pain; that sense of wellness after class where we touch stillness and spaciousness; better deeper sleep; the sense of wholeness instead of a fragmented life with many compartments. These changes occur slowly bit by bit, via a subtle and organic process.

Perhaps, things which we were used and accustomed to before, now feel awkward. Like the caterpillar in the cocoon, who yearns to be a butterfly, we slowly change and transform, bringing the shadow into light. Habitual patterns shift, what used to fit, no longer does. Like the growing child whose shoes no longer fit.

Facing our dark side (in the cocoon) and embracing it poses an essential step towards wholeness, marking an integral part of any true spiritual journey.

But change is always frightening. The yoga practice allows you a glimpse of the joyful and free person you can be. Practicing asana shows you that you can accomplish things you never thought you could. Like in our class, slowly, everyone coming up into sirsasana (headstand) or mayurasana. Removing the mind’s limitations on the can and cant’s. When you hold poses for a while, you have time to get where you want to be. You have time to Be, not just Do.

A caterpillar cannot remain in the cocoon forever. A butterfly must emerge when the time is right. Just trust in nature’s timing.

Namaste 🙏🏻
