Who Am I?

May is a month of rest and self practice & healing.
This is a perennial question ‘Who Am I’?
The solidified conditioned mind and ego through conditionings from childhood have defined…. i’m a good person because…. i’m a doctor…. i’m a daughter… I’m a wife… I’m a husband… I’m an artist… I’m a poet….and society defines our behaviour as ‘i’m a good person because i do this’ ‘ he is a bad person because he…’
But truly… when we look deeply at who we are… when we take away titles/designations/roles/society expectations/ family expectations/ self expectations; who are we then?
Are we this slim or fat body? are we this beautiful or ugly face? are we this tall or short person? are we this high society or low socioeconomic class person? are we this popular/ unpopular person with many friends/ few friends? are we this loving person in a wonderful relationship or a victim in a bad partnership? Am i this mother of 3 beautiful children and wife of a loving, perfect, successful husband. Am i the hotshot lawyer, or CEO, or famous poet. When we drop all the identities, it’s a frightening place. Cos the Ego has no place to go to be embellished. So who are we then?
This is a basis of Ramana Maharshi’s method of Self Inquiry. https://www.sriramanamaharshi.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/who_am_I.pdf
This is a simple 8 page Q&A booklet. but so insightful of this great sage.
