Why be a yoga teacher

Many people probably think why I teach yoga with a full-time busy job being a private geriatrician.
I teach cos my teacher says Teach!
Cos only by teaching i can understand why i know and what i don't. And honestly, i should be paying the students cos i learn and grow so much as a result of teaching.
It is also passing on the lineage. From Mr Iyengar- Ramanandji- Nancy Stechert- Joan Seow- to Ramanandji for past 21 yeara.
I taught at IYC in 2007-2010 and then restarted teaching again in 2015 at Comoshambhala. It started with yoga for backcare (a speciality area likely cos of my profession).. Covid has really revolutionised the practice to zoom-based practice where yoga previously was always taught in a in-person setting. It allowed students to be more regular in attendance , supported them during the challenging Covid years and hence the growth has been exponential. I was also able to teach more Hatha classes. At the end, i decided to become a small independent practice as it allowed me to keep it very affordable so cost didn't factor in whether a student could afford to attend class, but purely the 'fire' to learn and grow in the student.
And having it as a passion project allows a lot of freedom. I don't have to worry about overheads, pleasing students to make sure they come back next class, and putting food on the table. For that, so much gratitude 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 that i can practice with authenticity.
But the practice is really one's own. Once the foundation is there (which of course takes years), with an expert teacher to point the errors of practice and thinking, the real teacher is within.
Listening to that inner voice. Being aware of how the energy flows and how we move to facilitate that. Slowly we peel the layers (see previous Blog post on Why Do YoGa) to really see ourselves for who we are.
At the end. wherever your yoga practice takes you. Let it be enough. Moksha is what we all seek.
May you be healthy.
May you be happy.
May you help others from the authenticity of your Beinf 🙏🏻
Namaste.

Thank you for your time, presence, sharing in our sessions. Appreciate your continuous effort to keep things fresh, seeking inputs and trying new things.
Zoom yoga feels more personal and more a practice than a class. It’s on me to feel what I should feel and clearly I have to listen closer.
I look forward to 2024 and I wish you the joys and peace of the season and a happy new year!
