Because this is where the practice is at presently.
STABILITY
Stability comes from the groundedness of Mother Earth from which all life sprouts. Like the roots of the banyan tree. From grounding, the expansion and Lightness comes forth. Through stability, we can withstand all the physical and metaphorical fluctuations in life and mind.
Quoting Vanda Scaravelli “Yoga
is an effortless dance with BREATH
GRAVITY”
“She discovered by grounding heavily through whatever part of her body was touching the earth, and having an effortless breath, the spine would lengthen naturally as a result. This well-rooted connection with the earth allows the earth's energy to freely move throughout the body. A wonderfully fluid wave-like motion moves through the spine, creating space, freedom, and lightness. The breath is an easy breath, never forced. Inhaling in stillness, and exhaling with the flowing movement of your body. This approach works nicely with the natural movement of one's body in relation to gravity and breath awareness. There is a large focus on releasing into gravity and allowing the body to relax and finding the ease in the pose. It is quite liberating. Your mind becomes focused and your body, free of tension.”
SPACE
Being grounded in the asana practice createa the foundation from which everything flows. Using the resultant rebound of gravity to create fluidity and free flow energy working from the
Muladhara chakra (root chakra) up the physical spine and energy channel.
Not just physical space but also energetic space and eventually psychological space & Moksha (freedom). Slowing extending the period spent in Being-ness to truly understand Who we truly are.
"Space is not empty. It is full, a plenum as opposed to a vacuum, and is the ground for the existence of everything, including ourselves. The universe is not separate from this cosmic sea of energy.” ― David Bohm
